The Maze – offices closing in Arnold

The Maze is down-sizing and closing its offices at 28a High Street, Arnold. They are having a ‘sale’ of items such as desks, shredder, chairs, photocopier, stationery items, etc on Friday 11 May 2012 from 10 00am until 2 00pm. They are inviting local community groups to go along to the sale and help them dispose of their unwanted items.

The Maze is continuing its services to support autistic children and their families one day a week in Asda’s Community Room. If you want further details of this contact Paula Webb on 0115 914 9757.

Funding Surgery

Gedling CVS in partnership with the Nottinghamshire Focus on Funding project is holding a Funding Surgery on Friday 4th May, from 10 am to 4 pm. This surgery is open to any voluntary or community group in Nottinghamshire, who need help to secure funding for example a play group, historical society, football team or village hall.

You will get a 45 minute appointment with an experienced funding advisor who can help with:

Completing funding application forms you’ve already started
Finding new sources of funding
Let you know what other help is available in your area
Any other questions you have about funding

After your appointment you will have the opportunity to register with Funding Central, the free online funding search website, and carry out relevant funding searches. This may take up to 30 minutes.

The next meeting of the Gedling Volunteering Forum will take place on Wednesday next week, 11th April, at Carlton Fire Station. The main topic will be a taster session on “Volunteers and the Law” will be facilitated by Dave Thomas, the Volunteering Development Worker at Gedling CVS.

Gedling Work Club Programme Continues

We at Gedling CVS launched our Work Club back in January to a steady stream of people wanting help and advice to get back into work. The initial programme took us to mid March, but since it has been a huge success we have extended the programme until July.

All sessions are Wednesday mornings from 10.00am-12.00 at Gedling CVS, 22a Main Road Gedling.

New Play Facilities on Burton Road Park

Burton Road Park has undergone some improvments recently.

The Official Opening of the new Play Facilitites will take place on Friday 30 March 2012 1pm till 5pm at Burton Road, Carlton.

This is a free event for all the family to enjoy. Activities include:

Master Blaster Laser Tag
Body Zorbing
Skatepark Jam
Competitions
Arts and Crafts
Local school children performing songs,

Mayor of Gedling to officially open the new play facilities, BMX demonstrations and much much more.

Gedling Women’s Day

A day organised by Women, for Women and about Women will takes place on Saturday 24th March 2012 from 9.30 am – 4.30pm at Gedling Civic Centre, Arnot Hill Park, Arnold.

Speakers will be discussing how recent political and economic changes affect women at a European, national and local level: They include Glenis Wilmott MEP and Rachel Reeves MP as well as local speakers.

Taking Lighter Steps

Fairtrade for Bassetlaw and Notts Fairtrade Working Group have organised a conference exploring how to be an ethical consumer in a modern world.

If you want to make a difference through your every-day activities, then this conference is for you. Through workshops & talks this will be an opportunity to look at how to be an ethical consumer. Contributors will include:

Gedling CVS launches new Work Club

Unemployed people in Gedling are being offered a lifeline through a Work Club which is being launched on Tuesday 31 January. The Work Club will bring job seekers together for a weekly support session at The Community Hub, 20 Main Road, Gedling.

The group offers the chance to share positive and negative experiences of looking for work and offers some practical help with CVs and application forms as well as free access to the internet for job-related searches.

The Work Club is being set up by unemployhed volunteers supported by staff from Gedling CVS who believe that having access to the opportunities and support available from a voluntary group will be an exciting addition to the existing services of organisations such as Jobcentre Plus.

The group is planning a programme of guest speakers/support workers from a range of other organisations including employers and training providers.

The meetings will be from 10 00am – 11 00am on:

Employment Training Workshops: March 2012

Employment Advice Manager, Andrew Monroe, at CA Plus is delivering a series of 2 workshops on commonly requested employment subjects, these will be hosted in partnership with local support groups throughout the City and County of Nottingham.

The two workshops are:

1) Essential Employment Facts; a Whistle-Stop tour of the essential employment facts that all employers should know and understand; e.g. recruitment, contracts of employment, PAYE and deductions, paid holidays, sick pay, notice periods and pensions. This is an ideal session for both new and existing employers to make sure they really do know their employment obligations.

2) Employment Update, The Government is embarking on far reaching plans to revive the economy and hence they are consulting on fundamental changes to legislation to make employment easier. This session will review all recently introduced employment legislation, plus a look at their programme of forthcoming new legislation expected in the next 12 twelve months.
